Chief Minister MK Stalin Announces Key Initiatives for Tamil Nadu Development

Chief Minister MK Stalin, during a reply to the debate on the governor’s address, unveiled a series of developmental initiatives aimed at addressing critical issues and improving infrastructure across Tamil Nadu. These measures include new special courts for sexual offences, significant investments in road infrastructure, the purchase of new buses, and the distribution of housing pattas for the underprivileged.

Special Courts for Expedited Justice

The Chief Minister announced the establishment of special courts in Madurai, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Salem, Trichy, Chennai, and its suburbs to fast-track cases involving sexual offences against women and children. To ensure swift disposal of such cases, a special committee led by an Additional Superintendent of Police will be set up in each district. Additionally, Stalin mentioned that rules in the prisons department would be amended to bar early release for prisoners convicted of sexual offences, reinforcing the government’s commitment to justice.

Rs 3,750 Crore Urban Road Infrastructure Scheme

In response to the rapid urbanization of peri-urban areas, the government has allocated Rs 3,750 crore for improving road infrastructure in urban local bodies, including Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore. This initiative will focus on:

  • Constructing new roads.
  • Restoring dilapidated roads.
  • Repairing damages caused by service lines.

This comprehensive infrastructure push aims to enhance connectivity and urban mobility in key areas of the state.

3,000 New Buses to Improve Public Transport

To bolster public transportation, Stalin announced the procurement of 3,000 new buses in the coming year. This follows the DMK government’s previous efforts, where 2.67 lakh plots were regularized, and e-pattas were issued to the poor and needy. The new buses will address increasing demand and improve transportation efficiency for commuters across the state.

One Lakh Pattas for the Poor

Highlighting the government’s focus on housing for the underprivileged, the Chief Minister stated that one lakh housing pattas will be distributed over the next two years. This initiative will involve:

  • Renovating acquired lands.
  • Acquiring new lands to meet the housing needs of the poor.

Chief Minister MK Stalin’s announcements reflect the Tamil Nadu government’s proactive approach to addressing pressing social issues, improving infrastructure, and ensuring better public services. These initiatives are expected to significantly impact the state’s development trajectory and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
