Kerala Businessman Boby Chemmanur Detained Following Sexual Harassment Allegations by Actress Honey Rose
Prominent Kerala businessman Boby Chemmanur, chairman of the Chemmanur Group, has been taken into custody by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on charges of sexual harassment filed by Malayalam actor Honey Rose. The news was confirmed by officials through the PTI. Chemmanur was detained from Wayanad following the registration of a case against him under non-bailable sections.
Reacting to the police action, Honey Rose expressed her relief, stating, “It is a peaceful day for me.” She also acknowledged the assurance given by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who had promised strict action when she brought the matter to his attention.
Earlier this week, Honey Rose disclosed her ordeal on social media, revealing that she had faced harassment but initially refrained from naming the perpetrator. Her post triggered a wave of cyberattacks targeting her, leading to the arrest of dozens of individuals involved in the online harassment.
In her statement, Honey Rose noted, “I usually ignore such awful remarks from disturbed individuals with contempt, but that does not mean I am incapable of responding.” She warned of legal consequences for those who crossed the line.
She formally lodged a police complaint this week, alleging that Chemmanur had made “repeated sexually colored” remarks towards her. The incident reportedly took place four months ago, causing significant distress to her and her family.
Boby Chemmanur is a well-known figure in Kerala, heading the Chemmanur Group, a conglomerate primarily involved in the jewellery business. He rose to prominence in 2012 for organizing football legend Diego Maradona’s visit to Kerala, an event that captured significant attention.
Following the actor’s complaint, the Kerala police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to handle the case. The SIT detained Chemmanur on Wednesday, with further investigations underway to examine the charges against him.
