Chhattisgarh Journalist Murder Case: Main Accused Alleged to Be Congress Leader
The recent brutal journalist murder of 32-year-old Mukesh Chandrakar in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district has sent shockwaves across the nation, with authorities swiftly initiating actions against the accused. Chandrakar’s body was discovered in a septic tank in Chhatanpara Basti on Friday, prompting an immediate investigation and a strong response from the state government.
In a decisive move, district authorities demolished what they claim to be an illegal property belonging to the main suspect, Suresh Chandrakar, who has been identified as a Congress leader. Confirming the development, a senior government official stated,
“Following the CM’s directives, the administration swiftly demolished the house of the main accused using a bulldozer.”
The action comes amid a broader message of zero tolerance against crime in the state.
Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma, in a press conference on Saturday, alleged that Suresh Chandrakar has affiliations with the Congress party. Sharma announced the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expedite the investigation and ensure justice.
“The case will be fast-tracked in court,” Sharma assured, signaling a firm commitment to bringing the culprits to justice.
Mukesh Chandrakar, a freelancer and owner of the YouTube channel ‘Bastar Junction’, was widely recognized for his journalism. With 1.59 lakh subscribers, Chandrakar had collaborated with notable media outlets like NDTV and News 18.
His body was found near the residence of the main accused, raising concerns over potential motives and connections behind the murder.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed deep sorrow over the incident:
“Mukesh ji’s demise is an irreparable loss for the journalism world and society. The culprit will not be spared under any circumstances.”
Journalists and media professionals across the nation have united in their demand for a fair and swift investigation. Anurag Dwary, Resident Editor at NDTV, highlighted the risks faced by journalists in exposing the truth:
“We stand in solidarity with his family and demand a swift and impartial investigation. His sacrifice will not be in vain.”
The murder of Mukesh Chandrakar is a grim reminder of the dangers faced by journalists who challenge authority and uncover the truth. This incident follows a troubling trend of violence against reporters in India, emphasizing the urgent need for better protection for those in the profession.
As the investigation progresses, the government’s actions will be closely watched to ensure that justice is served, setting a precedent for accountability and safety in journalism.
