Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Reach Divorce Settlement After Eight Year Legal Battle

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have reached a settlement in their long-standing divorce case, bringing one of Hollywood’s most contentious separations closer to resolution. Jolie’s lawyer, James Simon, confirmed the development on Monday, stating that this marks the conclusion of one phase of an emotionally and legally complex process.

Statement from Angelina Jolie’s Lawyer

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Mr. Pitt,” Simon said in a statement to the Associated Press. “She and the children left all of the properties they had shared with Mr. Pitt, and since that time she has focused on finding peace and healing for their family. This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

While the agreement has been reached, it awaits final court approval. Brad Pitt’s attorney has not yet issued a comment.

A Lengthy and Complex History

Jolie, 49, and Pitt, 61, were one of Hollywood’s most iconic couples, sharing a 12-year relationship and six children. Jolie filed for divorce in 2016 following allegations of abusive behavior by Pitt during a flight from Europe. Pitt has denied these allegations.

In 2019, a judge declared them legally divorced and single, but disputes over asset division and child custody remained unresolved.

Private Judge and Legal Delays

Initially, the couple had employed a private judge, a common practice among high-profile celebrities, to manage the proceedings. This judge awarded joint custody of their children. However, Jolie later succeeded in having the judge removed due to an undisclosed conflict of interest, forcing the case to start anew.

Details of the Settlement

The specifics of the settlement remain confidential, largely due to the couple’s use of private judicial proceedings. However, the public has gained limited insight through a separate lawsuit filed by Pitt. This lawsuit centers on allegations that Jolie broke an agreement to sell Pitt her share of Château Miraval, a French winery they co-owned.

What’s Next?

The settlement marks a significant milestone in their eight-year legal battle, but further legal questions, such as the winery dispute, may still loom.

For now, this agreement signals a step toward closure for Jolie, Pitt, and their family, ending one of the most closely watched Hollywood divorce cases in recent memory.
