Lil Baby Reflects on Close Call with Young Thug Arrest and Gambling Struggles
Lil Baby, one of hip-hop’s brightest stars, recently opened up about two pivotal moments in his life that shaped his perspective. Appearing on Lil Yachty’s podcast A Safe Place, the “We Paid” rapper detailed a close call during Young Thug’s arrest and shared how a jaw-dropping gambling loss forced him to change his habits.
Lil Baby revealed that he narrowly avoided being caught up in Young Thug’s legal troubles. On the day of Young Thug’s arrest, Baby happened to be at his house, leaving just two hours before authorities arrived.
“People don’t know, and I don’t even tell people. It could’ve been me with him,” Lil Baby shared. “Thank God I just happened to leave two hours early. That’ll mess your head up more than anything. Like, damn, I gotta see bro go through this, and that really could have been me.”
This revelation highlighted the deep bond between Lil Baby and Young Thug, a relationship that extends beyond the music industry. Baby described Thug as more than a peer, calling him an “everyday friend” and someone he grew up with.
In the same candid conversation, Lil Baby shared another jaw-dropping story: losing nearly $9 million during a 40-hour gambling spree.
“Eight million dollars,” he recalled. “One day, probably like 40 hours straight, I lost like $8 million, $9 million.”
This staggering loss was a turning point for Lil Baby, who realized he needed to reevaluate his relationship with gambling.
“I made myself stop gambling,” he explained, detailing how he enlisted the help of Mike Rubin, the founder of Fanatics. Rubin took drastic measures, writing letters to every casino to ban Lil Baby from entering.
Lil Baby has never shied away from discussing his highs and lows with gambling. In a previous interview with Complex’s 360 with Speedy Morman, he recounted wild stories involving high-stakes games with celebrities like Drake, Meek Mill, James Harden, and Mike Rubin.
“They say you’re gonna lose more than you’re gonna win,” Lil Baby admitted. “But over time, you can’t even remember [what you lost]. That’s the crazy part. I just feel like, if I’m lucky today, I’m lucky. If I’m not, I’m not. I win all the time. I lose all the time, too.”
These two major events—his brush with Young Thug’s arrest and his significant gambling losses—showcase Lil Baby’s evolution as an artist and individual. Both experiences forced him to make changes and reevaluate his lifestyle, demonstrating a level of self-awareness that fans and peers admire.
Lil Baby’s openness about his challenges, from close calls with the law to financial missteps, offers a unique glimpse into the pressures and temptations that come with fame. For fans, his honesty is a reminder that even the biggest stars face moments of vulnerability and growth.
