National Farmers Day 2024 Celebrating Kisan Diwas on December 23

Kisan Diwas, or National Farmers Day, is observed every year on December 23 to honor the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, India’s fifth Prime Minister and a staunch advocate for farmers. This day is dedicated to expressing gratitude to the farmers who are the backbone of India’s economy.

The Legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh

Known as the “Champion of Farmers”, Chaudhary Charan Singh was a visionary leader whose contributions transformed Indian agriculture.

  • Debt Redemption Bill of 1939: Freed farmers from the clutches of exploitative moneylenders.
  • Land Reforms in Uttar Pradesh: Revolutionized agricultural practices, giving farmers greater autonomy and resources.

In honor of his immense contributions, his memorial in New Delhi is aptly named Kishan Ghat.
