A horrific accident on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway claimed the lives of 13 people, leaving over 30 injured. Among the deceased was 32-year-old Radheshyam Chaudhary, a motor mechanic, whose desperate attempt to seek help while engulfed in flames has become a haunting symbol of the tragedy. The explosion, caused by a collision involving an LPG tanker, sent shockwaves through the region and raised serious questions about road safety and emergency response mechanisms.
Radheshyam Chaudhary left his home early Friday morning, unaware of the calamity that lay ahead. He was caught in the inferno when a gas tanker exploded after colliding with a truck. Despite being engulfed in flames, Radheshyam walked nearly 600 meters in search of help. Tragically, many bystanders opted to record videos rather than extend assistance.
His brother, Akheram, was alerted by a stranger who used Radheshyam’s phone to call him. By the time Akheram arrived at the scene with neighbors, Radheshyam was lying on the road, severely burned but conscious enough to recount the incident. He described the ground-shaking explosion and the flames that engulfed him as he attempted to flee.
Realizing the urgency, Akheram and his neighbors rushed Radheshyam to Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, bypassing the chaotic wait for an ambulance. Despite his resilience and the family’s hope for recovery, Radheshyam succumbed to his injuries, with 85% of his body severely burned.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the sequence of events leading to the tragedy. Key aspects under scrutiny include:
The incident highlights critical gaps in road safety and emergency preparedness, particularly concerning hazardous material transport. While regulations mandate driver training in fire safety and emergency protocols, the driver’s decision to flee without alerting authorities has raised questions about enforcement and accountability.
The incident has drawn widespread criticism, particularly regarding the inaction of bystanders who chose to record videos rather than offer assistance. This behavior underscores the need for increased public awareness and education about basic humanitarian responsibilities during emergencies.
Radheshyam Chaudhary’s tragic story is a stark reminder of the human cost of negligence and systemic failures. His desperate walk for help amid flames symbolizes both the courage of an individual and the collective failure of society to respond effectively in times of crisis.
The tragedy on the Jaipur Tanker Blast highway calls for urgent reforms in transportation safety, stricter enforcement of regulations, and fostering a culture of responsibility among citizens to prevent such incidents in the future.
