Reports of the legendary tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain’s death caused widespread confusion and panic on social media on Sunday night. These false claims triggered waves of condolences from politicians, celebrities, and fans worldwide. However, the news was promptly dismissed by Hussain’s family, particularly his nephew, Ameer Aulia, who clarified the musician’s condition and urged people to refrain from spreading misinformation.
Ameer Aulia, through an unverified X handle (formerly Twitter), clarified the situation, saying:
“My uncle Zakir Hussain is very much alive. We ask the news media to stop posting false information. He is in a serious condition, and we urge his fans around the world to pray for his recovery.”
Adding to this, veteran journalist Parvaiz Alam also confirmed the falsehood of the reports. He wrote:
“I checked with his brother-in-law in London at 1640 GMT on December 15. The family has not confirmed the news of his death.”
The 73-year-old maestro, globally revered for his musical genius, is currently in the ICU of a San Francisco hospital due to heart-related issues. Hussain’s manager, Nirmala Bachani, revealed that the musician had been dealing with blood pressure problems and is in a critical condition. She added:
“We ask for everyone’s well-wishes and prayers during this challenging time.”
Despite the family’s clarification, false news of Zakir Hussain’s death spread like wildfire. Social media was flooded with tributes, with prominent figures such as:
Even the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting mistakenly tweeted a condolence message stating, “The world has lost a true musical genius. Zakir Hussain’s contributions to music will forever be cherished,” before quickly deleting the post.
Ustad Zakir Hussain, the son of legendary tabla player Ustad Allah Rakha, is widely regarded as one of the greatest percussionists of all time. He has played a pivotal role in spreading Indian classical music to a global audience.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying news before sharing. Misinformation can cause unnecessary panic and emotional distress, particularly in sensitive situations involving public figures.
Fans worldwide are now coming together to pray for the recovery of Ustad Zakir Hussain. While the legendary musician continues his battle in the ICU, his family has expressed hope and faith, requesting the public to avoid rumors and focus on sending positive wishes.
As Ameer Aulia summed up:
“He’s alive, pray for him.”
The false reports surrounding Zakir Hussain’s death have been firmly denied. The focus now shifts to the maestro’s recovery as fans, admirers, and the music fraternity rally behind him.
