Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized after sustaining an injury during an official engagement in Luxembourg, according to her spokesperson Ian Krager. Pelosi was in Europe leading a bipartisan Congressional delegation to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge—one of the pivotal battles of World War II.
Sources familiar with the situation revealed that Pelosi tripped and fell on the stairs, resulting in an injury to her hip. Following the incident, Pelosi was taken to a local hospital in Luxembourg for evaluation. Later, the U.S. military medevaced her to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany—a prominent military hospital known for treating U.S. troops.
Her spokesperson assured the public of Pelosi’s condition, stating:
“Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation. She is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.”
Despite the setback, Pelosi continues to work from the hospital but will miss the remainder of the scheduled events in Luxembourg. Her office emphasized her commitment to honoring American servicemembers:
“She regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.”
Congressional colleagues expressed their support and wishes for Pelosi’s recovery. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who is part of the delegation, shared a message on social media:
“Praying for a speedy recovery.”
A group photo taken before the incident showed Pelosi and McCaul holding hands at the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg, a testament to the bipartisan nature of the trip.
Pelosi’s injury comes days after Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell, 82, tripped and fell at the U.S. Capitol, sustaining a sprained wrist and a minor facial cut. McConnell was cleared to resume his duties shortly after the incident.
Pelosi is expected to return to the United States soon following her treatment. Her hospitalization highlights ongoing concerns about the physical demands of official duties for senior lawmakers, as both Pelosi and McConnell remain central figures in U.S. politics.
