Chennai Book Fair 2024: A Grand Literary Celebration Set for December 27 to January 12

Chennai Book Fair is all set to take place at the YMCA Grounds, Nandanam, from December 27, 2024, to January 12, 2025, promising 18 days of literary festivities. The event will be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi at 4:00 PM on December 27.

Highlights of the Event

  • 900 Stalls: This year’s fair will feature 900 stalls, showcasing a vast and diverse collection of books, catering to readers of all ages and interests.
  • Special Award Ceremony: During the inaugural ceremony, the Muthamizh Arignar Kalaignar Porkizhi Award will be presented by the Deputy Chief Minister.
  • Free Entry for Students: Entry tickets are priced at ₹10, but students with valid ID cards can enter for free.

Prestigious institutions and organizations will also have their stalls at the fair, including:

  • Tamil Nadu Textbook Institute and Educational Services Corporation
  • World Tamil Research Centre
  • Sahitya Academy
  • Dr. Ambedkar Foundation

  • Thanjavur Tamil University
  • Department of Archaeology

Additionally, foreign publishers will participate, showcasing international literature.

  • Holidays: 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM
  • Working Days: 2:00 PM to 8:30 PM

Exciting Features for Visitors

  1. Discounted Books: All books will be available at a 10% discount, encouraging book lovers to indulge in their literary passion.
  2. Student Competitions: Competitions such as speech and drawing contests will be organized to engage students creatively.
  3. Special Exhibits: For the first time, a separate hall will feature books published by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
  4. Intellectual Engagement: Each evening, speeches by renowned scholars and writers from Tamil Nadu will provide intellectual stimulation for attendees.

Massive Turnout Expected

Last year, the Chennai Book Fair attracted 20 lakh visitors, with books worth ₹20 crores sold. According to S K Murugan, secretary of BAPASI, this year’s event is expected to surpass those figures with increased attendance and participation.

Grand Conclusion

The fair will conclude on January 12 with a valedictory address by Justice R. Mahadevan of the Supreme Court, marking the end of this vibrant literary celebration.
