Puducherry Announces Relief Fund for Cyclone Fengal Victims

The Puducherry government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, has announced a comprehensive relief package to support those affected by Cyclone Fengal. The devastating cyclone brought heavy rainfall, strong winds, and widespread damage to the Union Territory, prompting swift action to provide financial aid and rehabilitation.

Key Relief Measures

Immediate Financial Assistance

  • ₹5,000 per ration cardholder: Each of the 3.54 lakh ration cardholders in Puducherry will receive this amount as rain relief to help recover from the cyclone’s impact.

Specific Compensation Plans

  1. For Fishermen:
    • ₹10,000 per damaged fishing boat to assist the fishing community.
  2. For Farmers:
    • ₹30,000 per hectare for damaged crops to aid agricultural recovery.
  3. For Livestock Loss:
    • ₹40,000 for loss of cattle.
    • ₹20,000 for loss of a calf.
  4. For Housing Damage:
    • ₹20,000 for completely damaged huts.
    • ₹10,000 for partially damaged huts.
  5. For Families of the Deceased:
    • ₹5 lakh to families who lost loved ones due to the cyclone.

Total Financial Implication

The relief measures will cost the government ₹210 crores, with funds being distributed as quickly as possible to ensure immediate assistance.
