A poignant story of domestic abuse has come to light from Lucknow, where a man named Amit Kumar, driven to desperation by his wife’s alleged harassment, chose to flee his home and abandon his government job.
Amit Kumar, who previously worked at the Lucknow Railway Carriage and Wagon Workshop, found himself trapped in an unbearable situation at home. His wife, Swarnima Devi, filed a missing person’s report in 2021, claiming he had been kidnapped. However, the reality was far more unsettling.
Unable to cope with the constant torment, Amit left his stable government position and sought refuge in anonymity. He began working as a helper in a private bus company, a sharp departure from his former life. For the past 1.5 years, he has been living and working away from home, finding solace in his new role.
Sub-Inspector Shubham, who handled the case, explained how Amit was eventually traced:
“Using a seven-year-old photo and a deactivated phone number provided by his wife, we located him in Ashiana. Amit confessed that he had fled home due to his wife’s harassment and had no intention of returning,” said the SI.
This incident highlights the often-overlooked issue of domestic abuse against men. While discussions around family violence and abuse predominantly focus on women, Amit’s story underscores the importance of acknowledging and addressing abuse regardless of gender.
