India to Reclaim 1,440 Stolen Artifacts Worth ₹80 Crores from the USA
In a remarkable win for India’s cultural heritage, the United States is set to return 1,440 stolen artifacts valued at ₹80 crores. Among these priceless treasures are iconic pieces like the Celestial Dancer from Madhya Pradesh and the Tanesar Mother Goddess from Rajasthan. These artifacts were part of a vast collection linked to infamous art traffickers and were previously displayed at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
This significant achievement underscores India’s persistent efforts to retrieve its stolen cultural treasures. In 2024 alone, India has recovered more than 5,800 artifacts, collectively valued at ₹460 million. This milestone reflects the dedication of Indian authorities and international law enforcement in tackling art theft and illegal trafficking.
The return of these artifacts not only restores a part of India’s rich history but also strengthens global cooperation in preserving cultural heritage. This ongoing initiative highlights the importance of protecting historical artifacts from exploitation and ensuring their rightful place in their countries of origin.
