Engineering Student Sues Amaran Team for ₹1.1 Crore Over Real Phone Number Used in Film

An engineering student, Vaageesan, has taken legal action against the producers of the Tamil movie Amaran after a clip in the film displayed his real phone number. The number, which was exchanged in a scene between the film’s lead actors, including Sai Pallavi, belongs to Vaageesan and is linked to sensitive details like his Aadhaar card and bank accounts. This has left him unable to change it easily.

Vaageesan claims he has been inundated with countless phone calls from Sai Pallavi’s fans since the film’s release. In a statement to the media, he expressed his frustration, stating that the constant interruptions have severely disrupted his life. “I can’t sleep, study, or even carry out basic activities without interruptions,” he said.

The student has sent a legal notice to the Amaran team, demanding ₹1.1 crore in damages for the emotional distress, privacy invasion, and disruption caused. The incident has sparked discussions about filmmakers’ responsibility when using phone numbers or other identifiable information in films.

This unusual case highlights the potential consequences of overlooking personal data privacy in creative works and has prompted calls for stricter oversight in the industry.
