Suriya’s Kanguva, one of the most hyped films of the year, continues to struggle at the box office despite the buzz surrounding its release. On Day 7, the movie earned ₹3.25 crore, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹62.4 crore. While the film was expected to break records, mixed reviews from audiences and critics have significantly impacted its performance.
The high-budget epic, which promised a blend of action, drama, and stunning visuals, has received criticism for its execution. Some viewers have pointed out pacing issues and a lack of emotional connection, dampening the excitement for the film. However, fans and supporters have also praised the film’s ambitious concept, 3D visuals, and certain standout moments.
Reacting to the backlash, Suriya’s wife and actor Jyothika took to Instagram to defend the film and its team. In her note, she expressed disappointment with the negativity surrounding the movie, especially from certain media outlets and critics.
She wrote, “I’m surprised with the negative reviews… Sadly they chose this much negativity for Kanguva on Day 1, even before the first show was over… Be proud, Team Kanguva!” Jyothika also highlighted the film’s strengths, including its second-half women-led action sequences and the young boy’s emotional storyline.
